Star Wars: Hunters, an upcoming team-based arena shooter set in the galaxy far, far away, has been delayed to next year.
Competitive multiplayer fighter pits teams of characters against each other in fights across the Star Wars universe. It is scheduled to be released on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices. Although it was originally expected to be released in 2021, it was pushed back to the following year and has now been pushed back to 2023 again.
“Our ambition is to create a competitive battle arena game that will entertain for years to come,” the announcement in twitter (opens in new tab) read. “To ensure that we live up to the high expectations we are setting for fans around the world and for ourselves as developers, we have made the decision to delay the worldwide release of Star Wars: Hunters.
“We invite all players to join us on Vespaara when Star Wars: Hunters launches in 2023 on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices.
“We understand that game delays are frustrating. However, our top priority is to ensure that players have the best experience possible in the Arena.”
Star Wars: Hunters has already received a soft release in India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Developer NaturalMotion will continue to release content updates in these territories ahead of the game’s full worldwide release.
Long time to wait for a galaxy far, far away
While Star Wars: Hunters is a somewhat low-key release for the franchise, it was the only Star Wars game slated for this year. Now that it’s been pushed back to 2023, let’s look forward to the next game in George Lucas’ sci-fi universe.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Respawn’s upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is also set to release next year. But with no specific date announced, and with heavyweights like Starfield slated for release in early 2023, we wouldn’t be surprised if he showed up sooner rather than later.
While many more Star Wars games have been announced, we also don’t expect them to appear anytime soon. Updates on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake have been absent since its first teaser reveal, and we don’t know when Quantic Dreams’ Star Wars Eclipse will hit shelves.
Likewise, details about the recently announced Star Wars project by former Uncharted director Amy Hennig are scarce. We have no indication of when it will be released, nor when Ubisoft’s new open-world Star Wars title will see the light of day. Additionally, Respawn has a Star Wars FPS and strategy game in the works, which appears to be in its early stages of development.
Wookiee lovers and droid fanatics will be waiting a while for the next new Star Wars video game fix. We hope Star Wars: Hunters is as worthy of its license as its characters are cute.
