Big things really do come in small eensy packages: Insta360 has just unveiled its new tiny 360-degree camera that can record videos at a massive 6K resolution.
It’s called ONE RS 1 inch 360 Edition (opens in new tab), which is quite a bit. It is essentially a direct upgrade to ONE RS by Insta360 camera as of March 2022. The new camera is divided into five main parts: the 360-degree lens itself, a lens cap, a mounting bracket, a battery, and an ONE RS Core.
The Core is what houses the main features, including a small screen to help set up an outlet or configure the device. Compared to the older ONE RS model, the 360 Edition improves in three areas by migrating to notable features.
new features
The biggest change comes in the form of two 1-inch CMOS sensors on the lens, which ensures that images come out with the highest quality possible. These sensors allow the camera to record 360-degree videos at a stunning 6K resolution and take 21MP stills. The 1-inch 360 Edition is also capable of shooting in low-light environments thanks to this hardware.
The device also includes a new PureShot HDR mode for photos. This mode uses AI and automatic exposure to increase image quality. AI automates the editing process via Insta360 Shot Lab, the company says. The accompanying app lets people get creative with edits, like swapping the sky for a different look or fast-forwarding with Cinelapse.
And the last big change is the battery – called the Vertical Battery Base – which Insta360 claims extends lifespan. Without the package, the 360 edition has a 1350mAh battery. We asked Insta360 how long the battery will last with and without the pack, as well as when it will be available. A standalone battery base is scheduled to launch later this year. The company has not yet responded to our request.
making a comeback
In addition to these changes, many of the original One RS features return in the new camera. There’s FlowState Stabilization which, as you can probably guess, stabilizes the camera for smooth images. Horizon Lock keeps the camera level with the horizon, no matter how much it moves. And then there’s the Invisible Selfie Stick, which edits selfie sticks using AI.
There are also physical add-ons that you can attach to the 360 Edition. In addition to the Battery Base, there is a Quick Reader that you can use to transfer files to your phone. And a microphone adapter, which allows the camera to connect to a 3.5mm microphone.
Being packed with features, the 1-inch ONE RS 360 doesn’t come cheap. In fact, it is one of the most expensive 360 cameras on the market. prices start (opens in new tab) for $799.99. You can also upgrade your older ONE RS camera by purchasing the 360 Lens Upgrade Bundle. The bundle comes with the new lens, mount bracket and battery base for $649.99. You will just have to reuse the ONE RS Core.
