The frenetic mafia-fighting action of Hotline Miami and the gunfight of Deathloop seem to combine in the upcoming indie FPS Anger Foot.
Revealed at the Devolver Digital Summer Showcase 2022 following the opening of last night’s Summer Game Fest, Anger Foot is exactly the game its name suggests – a violent, colorful shooter that dives to its feet in frantic gunfights. Described as a “door-kicking, ass-kicking lightning-hard bass blast” by developer Free Lives (the studio behind the Broforce side-scroller), it doesn’t exactly lower the power.
That’s where Hotline Miami inspiration comes in. The game’s setting – the “caffeine-fueled Shit City fever dream” – feels as illicit and morally decrepit as Dennaton Games’ beloved top-down shooter. You’ll be fighting through slums, sewers and skyscrapers as you eliminate every vestige of illegitimate enterprise in a colorful and slightly absurd criminal underworld.
Anger Foot’s high-octane combat also appears to be taking a leaf out of Hotline Miami’s quick playbook. Your ad game trailer (opens in new tab), which you can see below, showcases a series of fast-paced combat areas, an arsenal of varied weapons, and the option to hurl your weapons at enemies, giving you breathing room for melee attacks. There will be secrets to discover and additional unlocks as the game encourages you to tackle levels in creative new ways.
Deathloop, meanwhile, seems to have made a good impression on Anger Foot’s main combat mechanic: the kick. Although you’re shooting enemies, your character’s feet are the real stars of the show. Just like Arkane’s immersive simulator, you can lift your leg to throw enemies, doors, and other objects into feverish displays of foot-related violence.
Expect to kick barrels and doors into your enemies’ faces and unlock new sneakers as you progress through the game. You will also be able to upgrade your powers for an additional kick.
Anger Foot is scheduled to be released in 2023. A demo is available to play right now in the game Steam Page (opens in new tab)if you want a taste of their slamming action.
