Don’t Buy The Wrong PS5 SSD On Prime Day Sales – It Will Cost You

Posted on July 14, 2022July 14, 2022 by Admin

PS5 SSD deals were a dozen this Amazon Prime Day. We’ve seen some great discounts on PS5 storage space solutions in the form of internal SSDs. You might be looking for one if you’re especially interested in increasing your console’s storage beyond that 1TB limit.

Buying one of the best PS5 SSDs is arguably easier now than ever before. Companies are releasing internal SSDs designed specifically for PS5, like this version of the excellent WD_Black SN850 NVMe SSD. It also helps that this year’s Prime Day deals were excellent for SSDs in general.

But with so many SSDs on the market right now – and with so many being discounted – it’s easy to take advantage of a bargain before seeing if the SSD is compatible with your PS5 in the first place. To save you from wasting your money – and avoid the headache of dealing with Amazon’s returns department – here’s how you can quickly identify which SSDs will actually work with your console.

The first thing to note is that PS5 games can only be stored and played from internal SSDs. Although the PS5 supports SSDs and external hard drives, you will only be able to store PS4 games on them. That’s because PS5 games require high-speed resource management provided by an internal SSD.

But we’re not out of the woods yet. More specifically, you will need a PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD. They are best positioned to harness the power of the PS5, ensuring fast load times. The aforementioned WD_Black SN850 NVMe SSD fits in here.

As well as the excellent Seagate FireCuda 530 SSD, which we also saw heavily discounted during Prime Day sales. Both internal SSDs will work with your PS5. Plus, both are pre-installed with a heat sink, eliminating the risk of installing one yourself. If you’re not sure what a heatsink is, here’s why having one installed on your SSD is extremely important.

M.2 SSDs also have a distinctive look. They are usually thin and rectangular and have a semi-circular groove on one end, allowing you to screw it into place when installing it on your PS5. On the other end, the one that fits into the SSD port inside your PS5, you have a long pin and a short pin.

Lastly – and this is one more point to use your common sense – internal SSDs are expensive. More so if you’re looking for 1TB or 2TB storage. Even at a discount, you’re likely to pay triple digits for an internal card with plenty of storage. This is the main reason why it’s so important to make sure you’re buying the right internal SSD for your PS5.

Now that you know which PS5 SSDs to look for and you’re sure you want to buy one, you’re ready to go. And luckily, installing a PS5 SSD couldn’t be easier (link), as the hardest part of the process is removing those complicated PS5 faceplates.

And don’t worry if you missed out on any of the best Prime Day deals for SSDs. Internal SSDs for PS5 are becoming more and more common as the console ages. And it probably won’t be long before we see them coming out at seriously attractive prices.
