Diablo Immortal Just Received Its Most Generous Feature Yet

Posted on July 21, 2022 by Admin

Diablo Immortal now lets you regularly change your character’s class and doesn’t charge you for it.

The class switching mechanic was released in the latest Diablo Immortal update, allowing you to flexibly switch between classes completely free of charge. You can now switch once every seven days, and you can keep switching between all six Diablo Immortal classes as often as you like.

on update patch notes (opens in new tab), Blizzard said it will also not monetize the system and “has no current plans to allow players to purchase the ability to change classes more often”. When switching to a new class for the first time, you will be able to change your character’s appearance and reset your Paragon talent tree. You will also receive a batch of placeholder equipment for your new class, which will be set at a rank equivalent to the equipment you were using prior to the switch.

Class-specific cosmetics and gear will not carry over, but will be available in your inventory if you want to use them in the future. All of your social groups, including clans and warbands, will also be preserved.

To change classes, you will need to visit the Shifting Flames brazier in Westmarch. The feature is only available to characters level 35 or higher, so you’ll need to spend a few hours with the game before switching.

It’s a pretty generous system. You can switch classes without losing your wallet or in-game stats, encouraging you to test out different character types before choosing your favorite.

While you need to reach level 35, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The limit should encourage you to learn the ins and outs of a class before you can dismiss it. Forced to stick with your chosen class, you may discover aspects of your playstyle that you would have missed if you switched right away.

Given the game’s aggressive microtransactions and hidden player limits that punish free-to-play players, it’s a little strange that this class-changing mechanic is completely free. But it’s not entirely surprising. There’s a clear business motivation behind this: players who can freely switch classes without having to start Diablo Immortal from scratch are likely to stay in the game longer. With longer playtime comes more opportunities to spend money on microtransactions.

Still, we’re not complaining about the freebie. No other Diablo game lets you switch classes after character creation.

The update also released several other changes. You’ll find a new six-part endgame quest that adapts to your paragon level, the Amber Blades cosmetic set in the in-game store, and 36 new legendary items that cater to damage over time effects.
