Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 (2022): Two-minute review
The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 (2022) is Dell’s latest 2-in-1 laptop offering, and it’s stylish and beautiful.
Starting price is $849.99 (£699 / AU$1,278) and is available in multiple territories including the UK and Australia. Just looking at it, the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 looks good, with its slim aluminum chassis translating to a decently light machine. It’s a little heavier than you’d expect from a 2-in-1, but it also feels a lot sturdier, while still managing to be travel-sized.
Once opened, the glossy touchscreen and simple but almost silky keyboard are immediately appealing. The touchscreen is great and incredibly responsive, while the keys and touchpad have good backlight and are wide and velvety, ensuring a solid typing experience.
The bezels on the side of the screen are thin, although the top one is a little thick, which makes the screen space a little difficult. The port selection is solid too with three USB ports, an SSD card slot, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack.
Inside, the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 comes with a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U GPU and Intel Iris Xe, which means it can play midrange games just fine. When we tested it with Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI, whether at ultra or low settings, it was able to maintain a stable, playable framerate throughout.
Just don’t expect to run something as demanding as Cyberpunk 2077 or Hitman 3 on it. Of course, its primary use will be for everyday school or work tasks, and it’s quick to boot and switch between tasks with little lag, and the high-definition webcam comes in handy for video calls and remote meetings.
The battery life is also excellent, being able to last almost eight hours with regular use, which means that you will be able to use it for almost a full working day without charging it. When dealing with a little more effort, like playing a movie continuously, the battery life was just as impressive considering what kind of laptop it is. And recharging doesn’t take too long either, an extra bonus for those with limited access to an outlet.
Overall, the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is a great laptop for everyday use, with a little extra power for gaming too. It’s well priced, portable, beautiful to look at with a high-quality touchscreen and keyboard, as well as great performance and features. If you need a laptop that can do just about anything, the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 (2022) should definitely be one you consider.

Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 (2022): Design
- Sturdy but a little heavy
- Great touch screen
- Good variety of ports
The Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 has a high quality aluminum chassis that has a good weight. Though it trades that off for a little more weight, making it a little more difficult to transport. It’s pretty thin, with a height of less than an inch, so it doesn’t take up much space in your computer bag, even with the 14-inch HD screen. Choosing silver gives the laptop that extra flair to help it stand out from other similar machines that tend to be black or gray.

The touchscreen is responsive and responds well to touch commands, although it can pick up a little glare if it picks up direct light. Its 1080p FHD+ screen displays beautiful, crisp images, so whether you’re gaming or streaming a movie, you’ll look great. It’s complemented by the 1080p webcam, which is perfect for showing your co-workers’ faces in high definition during that all-important Zoom meeting.
The keyboard has a beautiful backlight that comes in handy in the dark, and the keys themselves are surprisingly velvety and smooth, which, along with the wider size, makes typing a great balance between sliding your fingers easily between them and having a catch enough that you don’t slip into the wrong ones.
Its ports are quite varied, with one USB 3.2 Type-A and two Type-C, the latter of which doubles as charging ports. However, I wish we had more USB Type-A ports, which would be useful for connecting various other devices. Also, a minor issue, but one that can affect longevity, is that when removing a charger from a USB Type-C, it can be strangely difficult to pull it out and even result in you having to pull it out a bit. There is also an HDMI port, a headphone jack and an SSD slot.
Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 (2022): Performance
- Handles work/school tasks well
- Can play mid-range games
- Solid HD webcam
In terms of performance, the Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 is quite impressive for the specs it has. In its benchmark tests, it compares to other similar 2-in-1 laptops that are much more expensive. Not only can it balance various tasks like video/voice calling, documents, streaming videos and more without breaking a sweat, it can also run games like Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI and maintain a stable frame rate of at least 30 FPS. , either at high or low settings. So whether you like to work or play, this is definitely a solid laptop.

When switching to tablet mode, the larger touchscreen really shines. Touch controls are a fully functional replacement for the keyboard and their responsiveness works well with virtually any app or game that supports touch in the first place. The HD screen shines here too, as it displays vibrant colors, especially useful for any project or game that requires that level of clarity. It’s a shame it doesn’t come with a pen, as I think it would be a great addition and would make it an even better working machine.
It has a great webcam, 1080p HD and runs at a steady 30 FPS. Many laptops in your price range either don’t have one or have a shoddy 720p one that’s hardly acceptable for work or school tasks. But the Dell Inspiron 14 is almost as clear as your regular screen and takes crystal-clear photos to boot. The sound quality is also nice and clear, which is a plus for online work meetings to ensure every word is heard, and for any game or movie that requires good sound to create an immersive experience. While it’s not winning any awards for being the best sound on a laptop, for a 2-in-1 it’s well-built and has more than enough depth for most tasks that need it.
Although the laptop hardly needs it, as the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 won’t run anything particularly demanding, it still has a good solid fan system that keeps it from overheating. In fact, even when putting it to use during our benchmark or battery tests, it ran almost completely silently and generated almost no heat.
Dell Inspiron 14 2 in 1 (2022): battery life
- Lasts a long time for your device type
- fast recharge
The battery life of the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is excellent for a 2-in-1, lasting nearly eight hours during the standard PCMark10 battery test and the same amount of time for the film test. The results are comparable to other similar notebooks, only surpassed by the Samsung Galaxy Book2 360.
As for daily use, the battery lasts quite a while, carrying us through a full day of work without any problems. For the average user who won’t put this machine under a lot of stress over the course of the day, it will likely last the same or even longer. Not to mention how fast the charging time is with the USB Type-C charger, which takes a maximum of an hour to fully charge the battery when closed and a little longer when in use.
